Miguel A. Ortega-Vazquez, (S’97–M'06–SM'14) received the Electrical Engineering degree from the Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia, Mexico, in 1999, the M.Sc. from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Nuevo León, Mexico, in 2001, and the Ph.D. from The University of Manchester (formerly UMIST), Manchester, U.K., in 2006, all with an emphasis in power systems.
He was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Manchester, until 2010, and Assistant Professor at the Department of Energy and Environment, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, until 2011. In 2012 he joined the University of Washington (UW), Seattle WA, USA, as a Research Assistant Professor, and in 2013 as an Assistant Professor. He is still an Affiliate Associate Professor at UW. In 2017 he joined the Grid Operations and Planning group at the Electric Power Research Insitute (EPRI), where he is a Principal.
Dr. Ortega-Vazquez's research interests revolve around the development and application of methods to facilitate an efficient, secure, and sustainable operation and planning of power systems.

Fue investigador assistente en la Escuela de Ingeniería Eléctrica y Electrónica de la Universidad de Manchester hasta 2010 y Profesor Asistente en el Departamento de Energía y Medio Ambiente de la Universidad Tecnológica de Chalmers, Gotemburgo, Suecia, hasta 2011. En 2012 se incorporó a la Universidad de Washington (UW), Seattle WA, EE. UU., como Profesor Asistente de Investigación, y en 2013 como Profesor Asistente. Todavía es Profesor Asociado Afiliado en la UW. En 2017 se incorporó al grupo de Planificación y Operación de Redes del EPRI, donde es un Principal.
Los intereses de investigación del Dr. Ortega-Vázquez giran en torno al desarrollo y la aplicación de métodos para facilitar una operación y planificación eficiente, segura, y sostenible de los sistemas de energía.
